Prog music is famous for its lengthy tracks, and that’s mostly why it’s not radio-friendly, as it doesn’t fit with Pop listeners’ lack of patience and love for simplicity.
Prog tracks tend to run long to tell stories with numerous changes, therefore the music also follows these changes and juggles different styles and progressions. For example, Prog bands like Dream Theater have highly talented musicians who like to showcase their talent and thus a long track allows each member to fit their own solo in.
So between long journeys and simply showing off, here are a few of the best examples of great lengthy tracks!
Ne Obliviscaris – Painters of the Tempest (Part II) : Triptych Lux
Dream Theater – Home
Beardfish – Note
Haken – Crystalized
Noekk – Codex Deserta
Seven Impale – God Left Us for a Black Dressed Woman
IQ – Without Walls
Opeth – The Drapery Falls
Pain of Salvation – The Perfect Element
