Just to be clear, all my choices here are characters that are interesting / fun for Metalheads to watch. They aren’t necessarily picked because they listen to Metal, but rather because they adhere to the Metal subculture in one way or another.

  • 10- Lou from Hot Tub Time Machine

In this comedy movie, Lou is the pissed off Rocker / sick comedian of the group. He wears an Iron Maiden t-shirt, rocks in his car to Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home” and lacks any kind of social morals.

  • 9- Kelly Bundy from Married With Children

As a kid, I loved watching Al Bundy struggling to save his humble paycheck from being devoured by his family on “Married With Children”. Things were even harder for him because his daughter Kelly was an attractive yet dumb blondie who looked and behaved like a typical 80’s Rock groupie.

  • 8- Otto Mann from The Simpsons

Hail the Otto Mann! If you’re a Simpsons fan, you’ve definitely had a laugh or two with Otto the bus driver who also happens to be a Rocker.

  • 7- Thumper from The Butterfly Effect

The first part of “The Butterfly Effect” featuring Ashton Kutcher is an interesting movie with lots of twists and turns, and the most “extreme” character in the movie is Thumper, the asocial Goth college student whose appearance and lifestyle were deemed strange by everyone. Here’s a great scene from the movie where Thumper confronts some stupid college students:

  • 6- Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World

“Wayne’s World” was a comedy relief for Rockers worldwide and is to Rock as “The Blues Brothers” movie is to Blues. Rockers Wayne and Garth even end up meeting Alice Cooper backstage and proclaim that they’re not worthy of that honor!

  • 5- Metalocalypse

“For those of you who do not know Metalocalypse, it is an animated show (a cartoon) about the most brutal band alive – Dethklok. Dethklok is portrayed as the richest and most insanely prominent band ever to exist, dominating the world, with fans risking their lives in numerous ways just to see them.” (taken from Dana Halabi’s “Metalocalypse” article on LebMetal)

  • 4- Beavis and Butt-head

Who doesn’t recognize Beavis and Butt-head? Their fame really took off after the “Beavis and Butt-head Do America” movie in 1996. Perhaps they are a couple of idiots looking to score while wearing ACDC and Metallica t-shirts, but they’re the most famous Metal cartoons of all time.

  • 3- Steven Hyde from That 70’s Show

Steven Hyde is one of the main characters in “That 70’s Show” series which spanned 8 seasons. Hyde is an anti-government Rocker whose favorite band is Led Zeppelin. He’s always seen wearing band shirts in the show, making remarks about his favorite bands, and even working in a record store at one point.

  • 2- Tenacious D from The Pick of Destiny

Blessed by the late Dio himself, Jack and Kyle’s search for “The Pick Of Destiny” rocketed Tenacious D’s fame to stardom. With Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl taking over on drums, there’s more to Tenacious D than just comedy, which is evident from the quality of their latest album “Rize of The Fenix”. Hell, they even beat the devil in a Rock duel!

  • 1- Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Lisbeth Salander is the mysterious / troubled character from “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” movie, and to me she embodied the ultimate strange character with her asocial personality and anti-establishment attitude while having deeply-rooted virtues and a big heart. It’s impossible not to hate her if you’re a Metalhead!

That’s it for Part I, you can add your suggestions in the comments and I’ll consider them for the upcoming article in this series.
