  • Leprous – Coal

Recommended: Contaminate Me, Chronic

2 years after their brilliant “Bilateral” which ended up 3rd on my top releases of 2011, Leprous are back to amaze with their latest album “Coal”, proving why they are signed with the prestigious Inside Out Records label. Perhaps “Coal” lacks the instant appeal which “Bilateral” had, but it definitely grows on you if you’re already a Leprous fan.

  • Medda – Oceanus

Recommended: The Silence Within, By The Beard, He Has Risen.

Medda is an solo instrumental project by Robert Pessagno, based in California. Pessagno is actually a drummer for extreme band Wintersfear but in Medda, his music takes a shift away from his other band’s style into the realm of instrumental music. Pessagno does everything from guitars, bass, drum and synth programming to mixing and production.

The music generally consists of heavy groove riffing, expressive melodic guitar layers and atmospheric passages with an apparent great flow to the album from song to song.  There has been a great wave of solo musicians in the instrumental metal world in the past few years and Medda is part of it. Check him out!
