Oblivion’s ‘Farewell Concert’ took place at Quadrangle Pub, Hazmieh on August 17 ,2012.
Those who came early were there to witness the somewhat pacific friendliness of the place; the voices were low, and the smiles were easy. It was like attending a good friend’s funeral. Some folks were drinking at the bar, and others were playing billiards. Meanwhile, the band members, with their drinks and cigarettes, were getting ready.
The gig started late at 10:00 instead of 9:00 PM, but didn’t seem to be an issue since the crowd came in late, anyhow. Lebanese, they said! There were not many attendees and the place didn’t get to be full. Nonetheless, there was a good vibe in the air, and it was going to be a good night.
The opening band was Candlends, a rising local Grunge band. The band’s performance was classic grunge, as it should be. The front-man, vocalist and guitarist, knows how to get the job done. However, the star of the show was behind the cymbals, on the drums. Meet the Monster! Candlends’ drummer is a machine; the man devours drum-sets for breakfast… Of course, they covered Nirvana! And, they also played four of their own songs; they don’t seem to have found their own style and sound yet in their composition, but potential is there, and sooner or later they will. Candlends shows promise.
Then it was time for Oblivion’s last show. There’s no need to say what’s already been said so many times, they always put on a great show; a band like a time-machine that takes you back to the eighties. For some reason, however, they were not at their best, but Oblivion fans still took pleasure in their last performance. An Oblivion song was played for the first time. Songs were dedicated to special fans. And fans sang along as the night went on…

As the event name stated it was the last time we would see Oblivion perform, one of the active bands in the Hard Rock / Heay Metal style. We would like to thank Oblivion who have supported us since the beginning of Lebmetal.com in 2009 especially by performing on “Lebmetal Night at La Cité”. We have followed Oblivion’s activity for long and reviewed their performance more than once. We wish each member of the band luck in life and any musical future endeavors.
Fans and friends gathered to enjoy the night and see the band on stage for the last time. Opening act was “Candlends” described as a Grunge band and Grunge us they did. Candlends had a really enjoyable performance, the drummer caught my ear and fellow reviewer Chris’s too. I liked the energetic performance ,the heavy stick hits and the good synch with the band. I believe the band has very good potential and that they’ll end up playing a totally different style of music. Time came for Oblivion to climb the stage, when the smoke was going down to play “Smoke on the Water” by you know who… and if you do not, shame on you.
The band did not seem well prepared at start, maybe a bit less warmed up, but later on their performance was at best and everybody gathered next to the stage for “group Head-banging”. Vocalist Nigol was about to sing “Its getting hot in here…so take off all your clothes” just for the fun of it, it only ended with that sentence said, but the crowd would have still liked it with the amount of beer consumed. The band performed several other covers and some originals which were all enjoyable. I hope Oblivion will be back again, maybe under a new name and style!
